Firmware Flash Guide

Carefully follow this guide to install the Alfa Dashboard firmware on your ESP32 device.
This procedure is simple, but it requires following a few essential steps to avoid errors during flashing.

  1. Prepare the required material:
    • ESP32 module, recommended compatible model
    • USB cable for PC connection
    • PC with Chrome or Edge browser
    • USB drivers installed (download here if needed)
  2. Connect the ESP32 device to the computer using a USB cable.

  3. Access the Flash area from the website.
Log in and go to the "Flash Firmware" section of the website.
  4. Click the “Connect and authorize device” button.
A browser pop-up will open to select the serial port of your ESP32.
Only after this step will the site show the connect buttons required to flash the firmware.

Note: Each account can associate only the first blank device. After the first association, your account will remain permanently linked to that device and you will no longer be able to use the same account for other blank devices.

  5. Select the correct port and confirm.
The tool will start the flashing procedure:
    • If your account does not yet have an associated device: the "Flash firmware" button will be visible and you will be able to perform the first flash on a blank ESP32.
After the first flash, the account will be permanently associated with that device.
    • If your account already has an associated device: you will be able to update and flash the firmware as many times as you want, but only from that device.
The site will block the flashing procedure on other blank devices and will show a warning.
  6. Choose whether to erase or keep the device data.
Before starting the flash, ESP Web Tools may ask whether to erase the data stored on the ESP32.
    First installation or update

When ESP Web Tools asks whether to erase the device data:

    • for a first installation or a full restore, select data erase;
    • for a firmware update, do not select data erase, so language, theme, Custom Dash and saved settings are preserved.
  7. During flashing:
    • If requested, hold the BOOT button on the back of the ESP32 device for a few seconds, until the process starts.
    • Do not disconnect the cable during the procedure.
  8. Wait for completion and restart the device.
When finished, the device will be ready with the Alfa Dashboard firmware installed.
You will be able to update the firmware in the future as many times as you want and without limits, but only on the same device already associated with your account.
